Register to Sell Your Work on Our Site

Selling your art via the Munson Photographic web site is simple, extremely flexible, and potentially highly rewarding. You keep a very high percentage of the proceeds from the sale of your art.  Best of all, registering is FREE and we have no recurring fees of any kind.  Registering as a contributor provides you with a truly vast number of capabilities, options, and income opportunities.  Many of these capabilities and some additional background information are provided below.

Selling your images and services online via our site offers you these benefits

  • Sell your art or photography as:
    • Stock Images
    • Standard Photographic Prints
    • Fine Art Prints (archival media and canvas prints)
    • Motivational Art

  • You decide how each image is to be sold and priced.  You may decide that an individual image is to be offered as fine art, but not as motivational art, cards, or stock.  The choice of how an image is offered is completely up to you.
  • Post an "Artist's Statement' describing your experience, services, and approach to your work.
  • Advertise your services free of charge.  You may post numerous advertisements under various categories of products and services.  Via HTML you can establish any style and content you desire to highlight your products and services. Site visitors have access to posted advertisements via the "Services" link on the top menu bar.
  • Advertise your seminars, workshops, upcoming art shows or other events, free of charge.  You may allow site visitors to register for your paid event via our site.  Customize your descriptions using HTML to distinctively describe your event. Site visitors can find your event by clicking on the "Events & Workshops" link on the top menu bar.
  • You specify the price for each product or service you offer via our site.
  • Create any number of 'Artist's Galleries' that showcase your work.  This is an effective way for you to showcase your portraits, landscape images, or recent work. Site visitors can find your galleries by clicking on the "Artist's Galleries" link under the Galleries section of the left menu bar.
  • Create login protected Private Galleries that are accessible only to your clients. This is a great way for portrait, wedding, boudoir, commercial and related photographers to show their proofs to clients.  But beyond simple proof reviews, these galleries offer the following features:
    • Customers can order prints directly from your uploaded images.  We handle the order processing, billing, printing, and shipping.  You receive over 80% of the profit from each order.
    • Customers select how they would like a specific print size to be cropped from your original image file.
    • You define the sizes and pricing for all prints offered via these galleries.  You can offer your customers standard prints, fine art prints (archival media and canvas), motivational art, and cards in print sizes you define.
    • You can define any number of print packages.  You define the print types and sizes included in each package and the final package price.
    • You decide which of your defined packages are to be offered for each private gallery you define (since not all of your packages may be relevant to all of your galleries).
    • Customers can select the specific images to be included in any package or may order any a la carte print size you have defined.
  • Contribute images to our global galleries.  These gallery images are offered to the general public for purchase as per your instructions.  You may offer images as stock, prints, fine art prints, motivational art prints, note cards, and greeting cards.  You select which of these products you wish to offer on an individual image basis.  You also specify what print sizes you wish to offer for each image and product type.  For example, you may decide to offer small 5x7 and 6x9 standard prints for an image, but may elect to sell larger prints only as fine art prints.
  • Track your sales, income, and payments via tools in your account.  You can tell instantly if you have received a sale and the amount that is deposited to your account.  You can also review the calculations for any transaction to ensure we are accurately crediting to your account.
  • You receive a commission from us if any matting or frames are sold in conjunction with your image.  This is potential extra income afforded simply by offering your work on our site.
  • We do not require any exclusivity.  You may market your work via any other channels or outlets without restriction.
  • You can optionally elect to allow site visitors to comment on your images so that you can receive feedback and input on your work.

Some common questions and answers (FAQs) about our contributor program are provided below.  You may find more information about any subject by clicking on the associated button.  Registering takes only a few minutes and opens up an entirely new way to sell your work via the web.

Who can be a Contributor? 

Anyone who produces two dimensional artworks that can be reproduced as prints can be a contributor.  Any of the following (and probably others) are potential contributors

  • Photographers (event, landscape, portrait, fine art, etc.)
  • Painters (who wish to offer digital images of their art)
  • Artists working in pencil, charcoal or other mediums
  • Illustrators, cartoonists, computer graphic artists
  • Even muralists, quilters, mosaic artists, or other related artists may find opportunities to sell prints of their work online.

There are some limitations and restrictions regarding contributions

  • You must be the copyright owner of all images you post on the web site. 
  • The single exception to the above rule is contributors working on behalf of clients who own the copyright.  In this case the contributor may post the client's images to a private gallery solely for the client's private review. This is often the case where client proofs are posted to a login protected private gallery for review by the client.
  • Please do not post images intended to defame or belittle others either individually or as a group. 
  • You may not post images containing explicit sexuality.
  • You may not post images that could give rise to any criminal or civil liability under applicable laws.

What Does It Cost? 

We believe you will find that our costs are extremely attractive and more than competitive.  Here is a quick summary:

  • Unlike other sites, we do not charge a fee for registration, account setup, or 'Getting Started.'
  • We do not have recurring fees just for having your account with us.  We are a productivity based system.  If we don't sell anything for you, we hardly think it fair to charge you for the professional service of accurately reporting zero income.
  • When a sale occurs, we subtract our costs for producing the product (e.g. the cost of making a print) and the cost for processing your portion of any credit transaction.  Other sites claim they don't charge a credit card fee - but they do charge you for having an account on their site.  Which do you think might be less in the long run?
  • We charge a commission for each print, stock image, or service purchased through our site.  You can review the "How do I get Paid?" topic for more specific information about commissions.

There is a flip side to costs.  If we sell your image or service on our site then we think it is reasonable that you pay us a commission.  We think the opposite is true also.  If we sell matting, frames, or other optional items associated with the sale of your image, then we think it equally reasonable that we pay you a commission for this portion of the sale as well.  Obviously, you will not pay any fees on the commissions we pay to you.

We think we have established a fair and balanced price and costing model that allows everyone involved to benefit from a sale.  Our customers receive exquisite art from some truly outstanding talent, you receive the lion's share of any income from the sale of your image, and we receive a reasonable compensation for making it all come together.

Sell Your Art Online 

Registered Contributors may optionally sell their art images online.  If you select this option your images may be sold as:

  • Standard Art Prints (4x6 through 30x40 inches)
  • Giclée fine art prints (8x10 through 30x40 inches), including panoramic prints
  • Giclée canvas prints (8x10 through 30x40 inches), including panoramic prints
  • Greeting cards with customizable inside messages
  • Motivational art with customizable title and motivational text
  • Various other items we may offer from time to time such as posters, coffee mugs, calendars, key chains, etc.

You have control over which, if any, art products are offered, including the size of any prints you wish to offer, the types of art you want to sell (for example, you may want to sell cards, but not motivational art), and the prices you wish to charge.  You can make these choices individually for each image you upload to our site.

Selling your art online has these additional benefits

  • You get to select whether a specific image is offered as art (as opposed to, say, stock).
  • We take care of the order, order processing, payment, and shipments. You need do nothing
  • We credit your account with your portion of the sale of any prints of your image automatically
  • If your image is ordered with additional matting, framing, or other add-on items, you receive a commission for the sale of these additional items.

Book Your Events Online 

If you select his option then you may market your seminars or other events to visitors on our site.  Marketing your events online in this way has these advantages:

  • A large number of visitors will see your event listed in our events calendar - increasing the visibility of your event.
  • Visitors may register for an event online through our site.
  • We collect payment for the event and notify you via email of the registration.  Your online account also maintains registration information for each event you offer through our site.
  • Your portion of the proceeds from the event registration are automatically credited to your account.

Private Galleries 

Private Galleries offer the ability for you to include image galleries that are more private than our global image galleries.  Private galleries offer:

  • A way for you to show images only to people who have an appropriate login ID and password.  This is a great way to show wedding pictures, a portrait series, commercial photography proofs, or event images to select clientele.
  • A way to share a gallery of related images to site visitors. In this case the gallery is not password protected and is accessible to anyone visiting our site.  It's a great way to show a related collection of your work.
  • The ability to sell prints or print packages for images contained in the private gallery.
  • Any proceeds you earn from the sale of prints in the private gallery are automatically credited to your account.

Product Sales 

Whenever you sell a print that contains your image, you receive the proceeds from the sale of the print minus a commission and any applicable costs (such as the cost of the print).  In addition, if your print is sold as a complete artwork with matting/framing, or other options, then you receive an additional commission for the sale of these accessory items.  You will receive such a commission for any artwork containing your image that also includes any of the following:

  • Matting and matting embellishment services
  • Frames (wood or metal)
  • Stretcher Bars (for canvas prints)
  • Linen Liner (for canvas prints)
  • Any other accessories we may introduce over time

Increased Revenues 

As a registered Contributor you have opportunities to increase your revenues in the following ways:

  • Offering stock images to stock buyers
  • Offering various art products to visitors
  • Receiving online registrations for seminars or other events you sponsor
  • Receive online paid appointments (e.g. portrait sessions)
  • Receive information about potential assignments
  • Sale of prints and print packages for images in your private galleries
  • Commissions received from the up sale of matting, frames, and related art components sold with your image.
  • Increased sales of products and services you offer at your facilities, art shows, or other venues due to information you promoted on our site.

How do I get Paid? 

When a visitor to Munson Photographic makes a purchase involving one of your images or service offerings, your share of the purchase is automatically credited to your account.  Here is some general information about how payments are handled:

  • Payments are made once each month to contributors with a balance of $100.00 or more and who have a valid Tax ID on file (to protect your privacy we do not store Tax ID information on our web site). 
  • Payments are sent to the payment contact and mailing address you specified during the registration process.
  • All sales and payment information is recorded in your account and may be viewed anytime you are logged into your account.  The current balance due is also provided so you can tell at a glance how much you are owed.
  • You may 'drill down' into any sale to see precise values for the sales amount, any commissions or fees paid, any commissions received, and the final amount credited to your account.  This allows you to track the types of items and images that have been selling and to verify that your account is being properly credited.

Once you have registered you do not need to do anything to receive credit for purchases involving your images or services.  You also do not need to take any action to receive payment (once you have provided a valid Tax ID). Payment is automatically sent to your payment address each month in which your balance exceeds $100.00.

How Do You Protect My Copyright? 

We know how important it is to protect your copyrighted images.  Our web pages are designed so that site visitors cannot use the "Save Picture As..." function of the browser. We further protect all images on our site by embedding a watermark that becomes part of the displayed image.  Site visitors cannot view the image without the watermark.

If you authorize the sale of stock images then any customer wishing to license use of the stock image must agree to our stock license agreement.  This agreement clearly spells out their usage rights and limitations and also clearly indicates the copyright remains with the copyright owner.  It further restricts the licensee from creating derivative works that they then attempt to copyright.

Stock Image Sales 

As a registered Contributor you may optionally license images to stock buyers through our Stock Image Library.  This option provides you with the following benefits.

  • You control which images, if any, will be offered as stock.  This allows you to have images that are offered as stock, as art, or both.
  • You control the sizes and the price of stock images you will offer.
  • We take care of the licensing, order processing and delivery of the stock image to the client.
  • Your portion of the sale is automatically credited to your account.  You receive a very high percentage of each sale amount.
  • You will receive notifications from stock buyers interested in making assignments

Image Information 

You can establish and manage a large amount of information for images you upload into our global image galleries.  This information includes:

  • The ways in which this image can be sold (stock, standard art print, fine art print - including canvas prints, motivational art, note cards, greeting cards and card sets).
  • The print sizes and print media on which fine art prints are produced (including glossy, matte, and canvas fine art media)
  • Prices for every type and size of product sold.  You can, for example, individually set the sizes of prints to be offered and the price for each print size.
  • How an image should be cropped to produce a specific image.  You may select one cropping method to produce an 8x10 print and a different cropping method for the same image to produce a 10x20 print.
  • A name for your image.  You may also note the location and other related information for viewers.
  • A long narrative.  You can use this narrative to establish a mood, convey a concept, tell a story, or otherwise solicit interest in your image.
  • Establish search keywords.  The image search facility looks at all the relevant fields related to an image, including the name, location, and narrative.  You can provide enhanced search information via keywords that are also examined during the search process.
  • The Copyright Owner.  This clearly identifies that you are the owner of the copyright for this image.  The copyright owner is displayed whenever an image is selected for viewing.

Community Involvement 

As a registered contributor you are a member of the community at Munson Photographic.  You may participate as little or as much as you wish in the community.  If desired, you may participate in the following ways:

  • Post an Artist's Statement for site visitors to review
  • Post a description of the services you offer
  • Indicate various art shows or other events at which you may be found
  • Market your seminars or other training events
  • Market appointments to the Munson Photographic community
  • Receive emails from community members
  • Receive comments (if desired) on your art from community members

Online Account Management 

As a registered Contributor you can manage your online account in the following ways:

  • Offer your images as art, stock, or via private galleries
  • Create and post an Artist's Statement accessible to site visitors
  • Update your contact and address information
  • Review your online art print sales, stock sales, print and print package sales from your private galleries
  • Review account balance and payment information
  • Review your online registrations for seminars or other events you sponsor
  • Review your online paid appointments (e.g. portrait sessions)
  • Review information about image searches and potential assignments from stock and art buyers
  • Update your art show calendar

How Do Visitors Buy My Products? 

Depending on what you have selected to offer on our site, visitors may purchase any of the following from you:

  • Royalty Free Stock Images
  • Prints of various sizes and types
  • Print packages containing an unlimited variety of prints and print sizes
  • Private gallery prints and print packages (e.g. a portrait or wedding gallery)
  • Matted and/or framed art containing your print
  • Motivational art (prints only or matted/framed)
  • Greeting Cards and Note Cards
  • Registration for a seminar, workshop, or other event for which you charge a fee

To encourage visitors to review and purchase your offerings you may create a biography describing your background, art, or style. You may also post events that you will host or attend, including, but not limited to art shows you will attend, seminars or workshops you will host, gallery showings of your work, and lectures or demonstrations you will offer.

Registration is FREE and there are no one-time or recurring fees of any kind. We don't even ask you for any payment information. It costs you nothing to market your work via our site. We charge a reasonable fee only if you sell something - even then you will keep an extremely high percentage of the income from your sale.
